What Is Minimally Invasive Laminectomy and Laminotomy Surgery?
A Minimally Invasive Laminectomy and Laminotomy is performed to decrease pressure on the spine by removing all, or nearly all, of the lamina, which is the thin bony layer that covers the top of the spinal cord.
During a Discectomy, before the Disc material is removed, a Laminotomy or Laminectomy may be performed as it allows the surgeon to better see and access the area of Disc Herniation.
