What Is An Abdominal Myomectomy?
Abdominal Myomectomy is performed using a horizontal (“bikini”) or vertical incision in the abdominal wall. This type of operation is called a Laparotomy and allows the surgeon to have direct access to the uterus.Traditional surgical instruments and techniques are used and patients have general anesthesia and are usually hospitalized for two nights. Full recovery is expected by 4-6 weeks.
A Mini-Laparotomy is sometimes possible in thin patients and involves a smaller horizontal incision with advantages of less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery.
