Open Urethral Reconstruction

Open Urethral Reconstruction

Open Reconstruction entails several possible techniques for the correction of Urethral Strictures. These surgeries involve opening the Urethra surgically under general anesthesia to repair the Stricture.

In some patients, the area of scarring is removed and the remaining Urethra is reconnected. In others, after the scar tissue is removed, a graft may be used to form a reconstructed urethra. The graft may be created by taking tissue from inside the patients’ cheek (Buccal Mucosa).

These techniques in general have a good response rate, although they are more invasive than other available procedures.
